Battle for the quirkiest literary award

Posted by gem, 22nd February 2010

Authors are battling it out for the Diagram prize for the years oddest book title.

The six finalists are.....

'Collectible Spoons of the Third Reich'

'Governing Lethal Behavior in Autonomous Robots'

'The Changing World of Inflammatory Bowel Disease'

'Crocheting Adventures with Hyperbolic Planes'

'What kind of Bean is this Chihuahua?'

Other titles that didn't make the finalist cut....

'The Origin of Feces'...hmm there is no way I would be wanting to read this one

'Bacon: A Love Story'.....so true, so true.

Voting goes by way of public vote. The winner gets either a magnum of Champagne or a bottle of Claret.

Previous winners include 'Bombproof your Horse', 'Living with Crazy Buttocks', and 'People who don't know they are dead: How they attach themselves to unsuspecting bystanders and what to do about it'........hmmmmm and I thought I was a nut.

It seems that as time goes on, book titles are just getting odder and odder. There were a few occasions where no award was given due to a lack of odd titles.

Think my pick would have to be 'Crocheting Adventures with Hyperbolic Planes' which is apparently about the 'unique combination of a historical account of hyperbolic geometry with the use of crochet as a tool for its understanding'.

You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat
