Gems Chocolate Rant

Posted by gem, 6th July 2010

I think an occasional rant is a pretty sweet thing, so here I go.

It all started yesterday when I went on to the Stuff website to get my daily intake of what is going on in the world when up pops this giant ad for Cadbury's new mascot, a dancing cow called Frieda.

Cadbury were on to a good thing with the gorilla, . But I suppose they can't really use any animals that are in anyway associated with rainforests now that they were busted with palm oil.

Now, I may have thought this dancing cow was somewhat funny, if they hadn't of been caught out with the 'using palm oil' scandal, reduced the amount of grams you could get in the blocks (and still charging the same price), if I hadn't of learnt that the chocolate really isn't chocolate at all it is mostly dairy and sugar, and that American giant Kraft had bought it out. All of these reasons combined, and the fact that their silly dancing cow is getting in the way of my wordly news-reading time has caused me to rant.

I must say I had converted to Whittakers long ago, that Dark Cacao mmm mmmmm, and there are a bunch of other things about Whittakers that are neat, like....How Mr Whittaker started making the chocolate in 1896 in Christchurch (my home town), then him and his sons bought thier factory to Wellington (my new home town) and now have spots in Auckland and Dunedin too + They are the only New Zealand chocolate company to roast their own cocoa beans + they created the Peanut Slab (thats reason enough to have the crown right there).

Ahhhhhh, end of rant :)

Those adverts are terrible. they are not going to win me back to their awful tasting australian made chocolate, garrr. However I hope they don't close the factory in Dunedin (my hometown). Whittakers Chocolate = High score winner

I concur. Nothing they can do will win my chocolate vote! Down with Cadbury. And! I saw yesterday that they are doing Cadbury Caramello in rolls like Rolos! They can't even come up with their own ideas.
