Ha Haaa! (said much like a magician), bet you didn't know Guavasteen is another name for Feijoa!...or maybe you did, you smarty.

Chutneys, like jams are quite easy and cheap to make, especially when you use fruits and veges whilst in season.
Feijoas in season? Check. At the markets last week I got a kilogram for $1.50! so I went to chutney town, this is what I did on my visit.
1kg feijoas, peeled & chopped
1 onion chopped
3 small green chilli, seeds removed & finely sliced
3 apples, peeled & sliced
200g raw sugar
175ml white wine vinegar
2 Tbsp olive oil
(I didn't put this in, but if you are a curry flavor fan you could add a teaspoon of curry powder to the chutney party)
Heat the oil in a pan. Saute the onion and green chillies.
Add all other ingredients, and simmer for 45-50 minutes. (It will get all thickened and chutney-like). Easy Peasy.
Sterilise some jars (I have another post under Jam that gives a description of how to do this, otherwise just google, there is a good one on instructables http://www.instructables.com/id/Canning-Tomatoes-Roasted-Salsa/step9/Sterilize-Jars-and-lids/ This recipe filled three of the 227g jars, with a smidgen leftover in the pan for our gourmet chutney and mozzarella toasties. Tasty tasty.
