Playlist of the Week...

Posted by mo, 6th March 2011

I have decided to list the current beats on my iPod for the month - Not only will this save me from sending out the odd email of recommendations to friends (lazy? yes) but I'm doing it to share my eclectic music tastes.

If anyone has feedback or other sweet sounds they would like to add - feel free to comment.

I may update this list monthly, more frequently or just whenever I am motivated enough to do so. These are not necessarily reviews - I am perhaps not critical or observant enough to try but I do have my reasons for enjoying that particular artist, album or song.

Enjoy!

(In no particular order)

Crystal Fighters

Saw these guys in Berlin - this East London ensemble has a slightly folk, elecronica sound that is slightly a skewed from their use of traditional Basque instruments like wooden drums and sticks. The group comprises of two English men, an American and two Espanola chikas who produce this music so full of energy and excitement that it makes me happy...always.

Album - Star of Love. Fav Songs - Champion Sound, Swallow

Toro y Moi

This super talented South Carolina native, has just released his second album - Underneath the Pine. He leads the chillwave genre and recently graced NZ with his musical abilities at Campus A Low Hum (jealous of those who went!!). Its easy listening, summer beats. Check out the clip below;

Album - Underneath the Pine. Fav Songs - New Beat, Still Sound

Cut Copy

Need no intro. Their new album is a great listen and having just seen them at the Arches in Glasgow their music continuously proves itself to be great feet shuffling music.

Album - Zonoscope. Fav Songs - Corner of the Sky, Pharoahs and Pyrimids.

B

Broken Bells

Broken Bells is a result of a joint project with Danger Mouse and the Lead singer from the Shins. Makes for interesting listening.

Album - Broken Bells. Fav Songs - Ghost Inside

G

Glasser

Cameron Mesirow is Glasser. Her ethereal voice is exactly what you want when walking through a park on a spring day. My fav is this remix with delorean.

Album - Ring. Fav Songs - Glad

Oh Land

This Danish babe is among the likes of Lykee Li meets Robyn. She has been said to want to sound like 2050... Anywho, she is playful and fun. Her new album coming out on 15/3 with talk that she has had input from the likes of Pharell.

Album - Oh Land. Fav Songs - Son of a gun, rainbow.

Lykke Li

Lykee Li's new album is out. Listen silently, dance loudly and enjoy.

Album - Wounded Rhymes

Whew! Now these are the highlights of my last couple of weeks. I will add more as I feel the need

Take care my Prettysweet friends xx
