Mmmmmm Yum Sideways Rhubapple Jam. Why is it sideways??? Because I live in sideways world. Everything is sideways.
It is soo easy to make Jam! And super cheap. This guy cost me $5 to make two jars!
500g Rhubarb (slice them into cm type size)
3 Large green Apples (peeled and chopped to similar size of Rhubarb
1 1/2C Water
2 1/2 C sugar (approx)
2T lemon juice
Put the two fruit friends (the rhubarb and apple slices) in a big pot with the water. Bring to the boil (don't worry, they like it, it's sort of like being at the hot pools for our fruit friends). Reduce heat. Simmer for 15min or until pulpy.
Measure the pulp in cups. Return the pulp to the pan and add 3/4C sugar per cup of pulp. Add the lemon juice. Put back on the heat (don't bring to boil). Stir constantly until sugar is dissolved. Now you bring to the boil again, for about 40min. Stir occassionally until it is thick and pulply when tested on a cold saucer.
Pour mixture into hot sterilised jars. To sterilise jars - Heat oven to 180deg. Lay a double sheet of newspaper on the oven shelf (not on the floor of oven). Arrange the jars on the shelf (not touching). Close the door and heat for 20min. Remove with oven mits. Fill hot Jars with Jam. Seal when cold.
And now you have some Rhubapple Jam, Rhubarb and Apple, together 4eva, well until you eat it all! Share it with your friends! or use it to have a food fight!, or or use it in other recipes like my jam swirl biscuits which I will put up a recipe for tomorrow.
