Unicorns

Posted by gem, 29th July 2010

Incase you haven't noticed, I have a strange interest in unicorns. They just ooze happiness, plus rainbows come from their vomit, bet you didn't know that. I think my interest (not the rainbow vomit) may have stemmed from some sort of childhood memory, perhaps Rainbow Bright? although maybe he was a horse with a rainbow mane.

In mideval lore, the spiraled horn of the unicorns was called the alicorn, and was thought to neutralize poisons. In popular mythology, unicorns were hunted for their horns, which were said to protect one against diseases, or, if made into a cup, would protect on eform any poison that might have been added to one's drink. This belief is derived from Ctesias' reports on the unicorn in India, where it was used by the rulers of that place for anti-toxin purposes so as to avoid assassination.

People sold what they purported to be unicorn horns at this time, but were actually selling narwall horns (narwalls are whales with large, horn-like tusks that swim in cold water.)

This was taken from the site All About Unicorns, thats right there is a website that is ALL ABOUT UNICORNS!

I think my love of unicorns was rekindled when I discovered the awesome story that is Charlie the Unicorn: a sarcastic downer of a unicorn who is bombarded with two ditsy happy unicorns who always want to go on adventures.

I also found unicorn meat in a can yesterday......

Pâté is passé. Unicorn - the new white meat.

Excellent source of sparkles!

Unicorns, as we all know, frolic all over the world, pooping rainbows and marshmallows wherever they go. What you don't know is that when unicorns reach the end of their lifespan, they are drawn to County Meath, Ireland. The Sisters at Radiant Farms have dedicated their lives to nursing these elegant creatures through their final days. Taking a cue from the Kobe beef industry, they massage each unicorn's coat with Guinness daily and fatten them on a diet comprised entirely of candy corn.

As the unicorn ages, its meat becomes fatty and marbled and the living bone in the horn loses density in a process much like osteoporosis. The horn's outer layer of keratin begins to develop a flavor very similar to candied almonds. Blending the crushed unicorn horn into the meat adds delightful, crispy flavor notes in each bite. We are confident you will find a world of bewilderment in every mouthful of scrumptious unicorn meat.

Here is a unicorn broken down to meat areas.....

And my pal, Kelly just bought some Vomiting Unicorn stationary today from Nut and Bee...

Unicorns are fab.
